What Is Missing?

What is Missing?

Have you ever wondered why so many of us in our society make choices that are bad for our health, the environment, for society, and definitely for the animals? How could so many of us be so wrong?! Is there one ingredient, one quality, that could pull it all together for us?

If we look closely, we see the missing ingredient is compassion. Certainly, most people claim to possess it. We all may talk about it. However, with any scrutiny at all, we see that, as a society, our values, our actions, and our everyday lives belie our claim.

How could true compassion cheer for war and the killing of innocent women and children? How could true compassion routinely slaughter and torture the defenseless animals? How could compassion poison and destroy our environment? How could it use all the world's resources in our own lifetime so that our children and grandchildren will have nothing left but a barren shell of planet?

Compassion is the right hand of Love. Why are these sacred values missing in our society and our hearts? Is it because we have been conditioned since birth to put our own wants, desires, pleasures and bank accounts ahead of what is good for others, and unquestionably what is good for Earth and the animals? Our lives are completely centered on the "Me".

Love and Compassion, on the other hand, think outside the self. Their focus is on what we can give---not what we can get. Self-centeredness is always looking to get as much as it can and to give as little as possible. "What's in it for me?" is what it is always ready to ask. How can such a person form a lasting relationship with anything… or anyone? True Love, on the other hand, finds joy in giving and, in any relationship, thinks nothing of giving more than it gets.

As human beings, we have choice. We have free will. We have the ability to choose Love over personal gain. Thankfully, every day gives us a new opportunity to try again, to start over, to do what is right. It is a Sacred Gift that the moment we choose Love over the "Me", we will find a whole new world of harmony and joy has opened to us.

Labor and Wealth

Labor and Wealth

There was an interesting bumper sticker that read… “Labor creates all wealth”. What does one say? Does this pro-labor statement contain any Truth? Let’s examine it.

In the order of Man where Nature’s raw materials are considered “free” and “there for the taking”… then any added value… or “real wealth”… is taken to be only what the hand of Man has contributed. Then… strictly from and within this human assumption… this quote could make perfectly good sense! So… within the Illusion created by Man… this statement WOULD have all the appearances of “truth”.

Natural Order… on the other hand… is the greater Order… and lies outside Man’s Illusion. Within this higher Order… we see that true Wealth is produced naturally and automatically by the infinite Forces of Nature. Nature’s majesty is indeed Free… to be used harmoniously with our Mother Earth… and all her living ecosystems.

It is only when Nature’s Bounty begins to be used for Greed and Advantage… instead of Harmony with the Sacred Whole… that the true crimes of Human existence… come into being. It is inescapable that once we fail to appreciate the wondrous Gift of Life bestowed upon us… and slip into Illusion… that the suffering begins.

Within the Natural Order… all the environmental and World’s problems… are obvious and their causes perfectly clear. For those locked into the Illusion of the Human Order… however… these problems form such a perplexing dilemma… that we are happy to hand them over to the Authorities… the ones more knowledgeable on the bewildering predicament. Unfortunately… these same “experts” are also the same people who are causing… and profiting from… the problems! And… it is exactly the response from us they were hoping for!!

Those that seek Personal Gain and Advantage would have the rest of us believe in the Illusion… that the Human order is the real form of wealth… while they secretly stockpile all of Nature’s wealth... the so-called “natural resources”... into their own coffers. They steal all the real wealth that Nature produces under the unnatural guise of “ownership”. In this way… the rich can take what was meant for all to share… and fence it in for themselves… leaving for the rest of us only the Illusion of Man made goods.

By convincing us that Nature is free and meant for us to use (calling them “natural resources”)… they then guarantee their own wealth by taking charge of the Sacred land and ecosystems of Mother Earth. They begin the charade by placing the real wealth in their own pocket. The tree… for example… is worked into a board… sold to us… and then we are told that it is only the Human labor that matters. In this shell game… we now see the board as a human creation… and render Nature’s role as immaterial and insignificant!

We have been conditioned to accept the Human order as the only real order. It is only what Man produces that is important… and is the only “wealth”. Cities are thus created that are entirely human designs powered by… and dependent on… unnatural energy. Here the human order prevails… and Nature is crowded out with the “progress” of Man. We learn to seek our food in supermarkets… drive automobiles… and entertain ourselves with TV’s. Our entire lives are then lived within this artificial order. Here the Illusion is complete!

The unnatural world of Human order becomes our “reality”… and is the Illusion we are born into. It is the illusion that… by the time we are old enough to think for ourselves… we have already accepted as our “reality”. It is this Illusion that we then call “truth”. It is also the Illusion according to which we make all our decisions and order our lives. Furthermore… it is the same Illusion that we then teach and pass on to our children!

In this way… the gullible and unsuspecting masses are herded into our unnatural cities where… like a stage play… it can be made to appear that the fabricated and artificial order of Man is all important… and the only “reality”. After all… our lives now completely depend on it for our needs and survival! In this “Matrix”… in this artificial “bubble of reality”… all the human crimes and suffering are made to appear “natural”.

Only when we can break free of this pervasive Illusion can we see the World as it really is. Only then can we see the wonders and Harmony of Creation itself. Only then can we come to know our Creator.

Accountability

Accountability

Human beings do not want to be held accountable for their harmful actions. As quick as we are to take credit for something of merit… so is our sloth at acknowledging our destructive choices.

We want credit for the successes and blame others for the failures. It is always the other guy’s fault that there is war, crime, and global warming. The problems are always caused by something "out there". And, when there is no one else to accuse, we will even blame our genes for our illnesses and our obesity. While we gladly reap the benefits of this unsustainable society, we indignantly condemn whatever or whomever we can for the problems.

Until we can acknowledge the part we play in the problems, we can never move to a real solution. Like an alcoholic, we must first admit that we are out of control and acting destructively. We are all accountable for our actions and their affect on the world around us. Creating nice-sounding excuses does not stop our accountability. It only seems to justify it in our own imagination.

Accepting our own deceptions as "truth", only serves to give credence to the illusion we have created around our artificial and destructive lives. In this way, uncomfortable circumstances such as the horrors of war and the slaughterhouse can be swept under the carpet and kept conveniently out of sight. We then get to live in a fabricated and dishonest world where the problems are real, but we are blameless. Lying to ourselves is where it all begins. "This above all to thine own self be true."

Accepting Responsibility and Accountability for our distasteful actions is a most difficult thing. However, if we are ever going to break free of our illusion and all our damaging ways, we must look our personal contribution to the madness squarely in the eyes. Then perhaps we can learn to take responsibility for our everyday actions and accept accountability for their consequences.

The choices we make in our own daily life have tremendous impact on the world around us. When we learn to value HEALTH… our own Health… and the Health of the planet… our actions will then awaken and evoke profound forces for the good of all.

The Extent of Accountability

Are we accountable for what we do not do? We do not want to be held accountable for what we do do. Being Accountable for what we don’t do seems remarkably absurd. "I didn’t do it. Don’t blame me."

However, consider the fact that when we choose to watch TV we are NOT choosing to help the children… the homeless… the forests… the animals… the Earth. What we choose at once embodies, at the same time, all that we could have been doing instead with that moment.

If we have obligations, does doing something else instead free us from those obligations? Whether or not we view ourselves as having any obligations outside of the "Me", will determine whether our actions remain Self-Centered… or… will join in the Harmony of Creation.

Is Change Possible?

Is Change Possible?

Change seems to be the most difficult thing. Countless New Year’s resolutions go unfulfilled every year. We cannot lose weight or exercise. New commitments do not hold.

As a society we fare no better. Elected politicians still cheat, steal, and lie. We go to war. There is prejudice at home. The numbers of homeless increase. Apathy and ill-health are on the rise. And, our children are evermore abused and neglected.

So what is the problem? Is it possible for us to change and become better human beings? Unless we agree that it is possible, we are essentially saying that change is hopeless, that we are all just “trolls” who will never be better than we are. Why then become irate over cheating politicians if we would do the same thing in his place? If our nature is thus, then any talk of morality or kindness would only be hypocritical.

If, on the other hand, we feel in our hearts that change is possible, then how can we know if this is really true for human beings when so much around us says we don’t change?

We must first make the distinction between people not changing—and people being unable to change. One is a matter of choice—while the other is a death sentence for our species.

The only way to convince ourselves that human beings do have the potential, and the power, to change—is for US to change! As a representative of mankind, if I can change, then it is possible for mankind to change. See how powerful this is! Mankind’s hope rests with me!!

If I can change, all men can change. So, it matters not that men have murdered down through the ages. All that matters is that I do not murder. If I can live without murdering, then so could the rest of men.

Others may be violent, but what matters most is that I end violence within myself. In this way, my life then becomes a living experiment with the fate of the world in the balance! World Peace is in my hands.

What else could I change? Could I end Greed and Selfishness within myself? Then our children would still have a chance in this world!

Human beings have Free Will. Choice is always in our hands. I always have the choice to help you or harm you. I always have the choice to make the Intelligent or destructive choice. I can always choose the apple over the doughnut, the veggie burger over the steak. And, every Intelligent choice that I make—reverberates throughout the entire Universe.
